The Fear of the Lord and Godliness


    The fear of the Lord means reverence and worship

    Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Job 1:8

    And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. Job 28:28

    The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. Psalms 111:10

    Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. Psalms 112:1

    He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great. Psalms 115:13

    The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7

    The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Proverbs 8:13

    The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. Proverbs 9:10

    The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. Proverbs 10:27

    A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. Proverbs 14:16

    Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith. Proverbs 15:16

    The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility. Proverbs 15:33

    By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil. Proverbs 16:6

    The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. Proverbs 19:23

    By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life. Proverbs 22:4

    This can apply to us
    And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; 3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears Isaiah 11:2-3

    Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied. Acts 9:31

    Pray for leaders
    For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. I Timothy 2:2

    For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. I Timothy 4:8

    But godliness with contentment is great gain. I Timothy 6:6

    Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. II Timothy 3:5

    Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world Titus 2:12
