Go and Sin No More

We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not" I John 5:18

Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. John 5:14

She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. John 8:11

We see here that Jesus told two people to 'sin no more'. Would Jesus tell people to do something that they couldn't do? This doesn't make any sense. So, obviously, they have the ability to stop sinning. Now, they just have to do it.

What is sin? Sin is disobedience to something God has said. The Ten Commandments were written by God, and outline major categories of sin against man or against God. The root of every sin is a sin against God.

    Love
I have a question for you: Do you love God? Do you love Jesus? How much do you love Jesus? Do you love Jesus as much as Peter?
Peter thought he loved Jesus unto death, but then he denied Him. Peter thought he loved Jesus more than the other disciples, but he denied him three times. Peter thought his love was perfect, but Jesus taught him over a fish breakfast on the beach that obedience would produce the perfect love he desired.

    Willpower
Do you have the willpower to stop sinning? Your spiritual strength to resist sin comes as you spend more and more time with Jesus personally. Isaiah 40:31 says, But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

The word 'wait' here means to focus your attention. When you focus all your attention on your love for Jesus, you gain spiritual strength to resist sin. Waiting on the Lord includes worshipping the Lord, praising His Name(s), singing psalms, humming hymns, and simply reading the Psalms in the Bible. Worship brings willpower!

You will discover that as you spend more time worshipping and praising the Lord privately, the easier it will be to put away sins and bad habits that have plagued you in the past. The only reason people sin is that they don't love the Lord as much as they should.

Another thing to do is meditate on scriptures. On our website I have a whole section of scriptures, which are designed for reading and meditating to increase faith and spiritual strength.

Finally, I would say to put up personal barriers, especially in your home. In other words, don't allow anything in your home that might influence you to sin. If your TV causes you to sin, get rid of it. Jesus discussed getting rid of hindrances (even expensive ones!) in Matthew 18 and Mark 9. If you make these changes and don't give up, you will see the victory you desire. Remember the words of Christ our Savior, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."

    More Scriptures
Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. 28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. Ezekiel 18:27-28

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Romans 6:6
