"Righteousness exalteth a nation" Proverbs 14:34
Pilgrims 1620 - seeking religious freedom
The first group of pilgrims to the shores of North America included 35 Christians who separated from the
Church of England, and had William Bradford as their leader. Even though he was a religious leader,
he was elected the Governor of the Plymouth Colony 30 times. Around 1630 a larger group of around 1,000
Puritan Christians left England for religious freedom, and settled in the Boston area. These original colonists
began the formation of our great nation seeking freedom of worship.

In God We Trust

Founding Fathers
The following emphatically stated their love for Christ and reverence for the Bible: John Adams - 2nd President,
John Quincy Adams - 6th President, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Bejamin Rush, Charles Thomson, and John Witherspoon,
along with many others I haven't named.
John Quincy Adams said the Declaration of Independence was based on Christianity.
Benjamin Rush, a strong believer, said the writing of the Constitution was a work of God.
National Day of Prayer
Many Presidents and Governors throughout our nation's brief history have declared national or state-wide days of prayer,
and some of them specifically mentioned Jesus Christ or the Bible. At least twice, they were
declared days of prayer and "humiliation", which implies fasting.
With a little research, you can find hundreds of historical documents refering to Jesus Christ and the God of the Bible written by our nation's founding fathers, and the presidents and leaders who followed them.
We must pray
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
1 Timothy 2:2
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. Proverbs 14:34
